What is a built-in oven?

A built-in oven is fitted into kitchen cabinetry, either beneath a worktop or at eye level in a tall housing unit. “Integrated oven” is normally used for the same cabinet-fitting arrangement, while “built-under” describes the shorter format designed to sit beneath a worktop.

Before comparing models, identify the available opening, the oven format you need and the electrical requirements stated by the manufacturer. A replacement can be unsuitable if its height or depth differs from the existing cavity, even when the width appears correct.

Are built-in ovens a standard size?

Built-in ovens are broadly standard in width, but they are not all the same size. Most are around 60cm wide, while height varies between single, double and compact formats. Measure the actual cavity rather than relying on the phrase “standard size”.

The researched full-height double-oven examples have similar widths and heights, but their depths differ:

Model Height Width Depth
Kenwood KBIDOX25 88.5cm 59.5cm 57cm
Bosch Series 2 MHA133BR0B 88.8cm 59.4cm 55cm
Neff N50 U1ACE2AG3B 88.8cm 59.4cm 55cm
Beko Pro RecycledNet BBXDF22300S 89cm 59.4cm 56.7cm
Hotpoint Air Fry DIH 82G1A B 89cm 59.4cm 56.7cm

Currys recommends checking the cavity’s width, height and depth before buying. Measure at several points, record the smallest usable measurement and compare it with the appliance’s installation dimensions rather than its front-panel size.

Single built-in oven or built-in double oven?

Choose a single built-in oven when one main cavity is enough for your cooking. A full-height double oven gives you a main oven plus a separate smaller oven and grill, making it useful when you regularly cook dishes at different temperatures. A single oven may instead provide one larger uninterrupted cavity within a similar general cabinet width.

Stoves describes a single oven as having the oven and grill in one cavity, while a double oven has a main oven plus a separate oven or grill. Capacity alone does not show how much food will fit: shelf positions and the internal layout also affect practical space.

The named double-oven examples have main-oven capacities of 69 to 72 litres. The Indesit and Beko models provide 69 litres, while the Kenwood, Bosch, Neff and Hotpoint examples provide 71 or 72 litres. Check the shelf arrangement and tray sizes as well as the stated litre capacity.

Electric built-in oven and grill options

The researched product examples are electric and combine functions such as fan cooking, grilling and multifunction programmes. A fan oven circulates heated air, while “multifunction” indicates several cooking modes rather than one basic heat setting. Currys also lists plug-in electric models in its separate built-in single-oven category, but the connection is model-specific.

For an electric oven and grill, read the exact product specification and installation instructions before ordering. Do not assume that every built-in electric oven uses the same connection or that a plug is included.

Built-in oven features worth paying for

  • Fan cooking: specified on the Beko and Indesit examples.
  • Multifunction cooking: included on the Kenwood, Bosch, Neff and Hotpoint examples.
  • Steam: Bosch lists a Series 4 oven with an added steam function.
  • Air fry: Hotpoint lists air-fry cooking on its Air Fry model.
  • Cleaning systems: catalytic liners, enamel coating, assisted cleaning and pyrolytic cleaning are different approaches. Neff describes pyrolytic cleaning as self-cleaning on its listed model.
  • Microwave combination: Bosch lists both a compact oven with microwave function and a built-in microwave with hot-air function.

Match features to your cooking routine. Fan cooking may be more useful than an occasional programme, while pyrolytic cleaning can suit buyers who want to reduce manual cleaning.

Five built-in ovens worth considering

These examples cover different prices and features rather than claiming one universal winner. The Currys prices and specifications were checked on 9 September 2026.

Model Price Main specification Best suited to
Indesit DII 10D B £299 69-litre main oven, fan cooking, enamel coating, A rating Lower-cost double oven
Beko Pro RecycledNet BBXDF22300S £319 69-litre main oven, fan cooking, assisted cleaning, A rating Budget buyers wanting assisted cleaning
Kenwood KBIDOX25 £349 72-litre main oven, catalytic liners, multifunction cooking, A rating Larger main cavity at a moderate price
Hotpoint Air Fry DIH 82G1A B £449 71-litre main oven, multifunction cooking, assisted cleaning, air-fry cooking, A rating Buyers wanting an air-fry mode
Neff N50 U2ACH7AN7B £1,099 71-litre main oven, pyrolytic cleaning, multifunction cooking, A rating Buyers prioritising self-cleaning

The Currys double-oven listings also show the Bosch Series 2 MHA133BR0B at £599, with a 71-litre main oven, multifunction cooking, enamel coating and an A energy rating. Prices and availability can change, so verify the listing before purchase.

Built-in oven and microwave combinations

A built-in oven and microwave combination can provide two cooking functions in one compact appliance. Bosch lists a Series 4 60 × 45cm built-in microwave oven with hot-air function at £699 and a Series 8 60 × 45cm compact oven with microwave function at £1,099, including VAT and marked in stock on its UK product page.

These compact appliances are not like-for-like replacements for a full-height double oven. Decide whether you need a full oven cavity, a microwave or both, then compare the height of the available opening with the appliance dimensions.

Built-in oven and hob packages

An oven-and-hob package can simplify the purchase of a coordinated cooking setup. Appliances Direct lists packs including an electriQ plug-in electric single oven with plug-in induction hob and an electriQ built-in electric double oven with a 60cm four-zone ceramic hob.

Compare the oven format, hob type and installation requirements separately. Both appliances must suit the kitchen opening and the way you cook.

How to choose the right built-in oven

  1. Measure the cavity. Record width, height and depth, check for obstructions and compare the smallest measurements with the installation diagram.
  2. Select the format. Choose single, built-under double, full-height double or compact according to the available height and the number of dishes you cook at once.
  3. Check the connection. Follow the installation requirement for the exact model, including whether it is a plug-in appliance.
  4. Prioritise useful functions. Consider fan cooking, multifunction modes, steam, air fry, microwave combination and cleaning systems.
  5. Compare capacity and layout. Look beyond litres and check shelf positions, cavity arrangement and tray sizes.
  6. Set the complete budget. Include the appliance, required installation and any cabinet or connection work specified by the manufacturer.

Frequently asked questions

Are built-in ovens a standard size?

They are generally around 60cm wide, but heights and depths vary by format and model. Measure the cavity before buying and compare it with the installation dimensions.

Which brand is best for built-in ovens?

No single brand is established as best for every buyer. Bosch, Neff, Beko, Hotpoint, Indesit and Kenwood all appear in the current UK examples, but suitability depends on dimensions, capacity, functions, cleaning system, connection and budget.

Which built-in oven is the best?

There is no universally best model. The Indesit example is the lowest-priced double oven in the table, the Hotpoint adds air-fry cooking, and the Neff adds pyrolytic cleaning. Choose the format and features that match your cooking.

Is a built-in oven the same as an integrated oven?

Usually, yes. Both terms describe an oven fitted into kitchen cabinetry. “Built-under” is more specific and refers to a shorter oven intended to sit below a worktop.
